Tom Thumb nursery was founded on the 5th of September 1985. It is conveniently situated near Eastbourne's town centre and has the added benefit of an enclosed, all weather garden and parking to the rear.

The nursery Director, Mrs Claire Townsend, took over ownership of the nursery in July 2005 but has been a member of the Tom Thumb Team since October 1995. Mrs Townsend holds an NVQ2 and NVQ3 in childcare and education, an NVQ4 in childcare and management and is qualified as a Special Educational Needs co-ordinator.

The Nursery has a caring team all of whom are either qualified to level 3 or are undergoing training to achieve a level 3 qualification in childcare and education. It is also a requirement that all staff takes up and regularly updates paediatric first aid training, basic food hygiene certificates and child protection qualifications.

The nursery currently has a further 3 members of staff qualified as special educational needs co-ordinators and we hold a non discriminatory approach to children with disabilities or those with additional educational or behavioral needs and welcomes children from all cultures and religious backgrounds.

Tom Thumb is Registered with Ofsted, our registration number is EY312715. We have received excellent inspection reports for both care and educational standards. Our latest report can be found on the Ofsted website at www.Ofsted.gov.uk

The nursery is set over three floors all of which have a classroom/playroom with an extensive range of equipment and creative materials for the childrens use. Each floor has its own cloakroom and set of toilets. The kindergarten and nursery floors also have nappy changing facilities.

There is a large enclosed rear garden for use by the children and is fitted with an all year round safety surface that allows it to be used in all weathers. It is equipped with climbing frames, slides, playhouses, scooters, trikes and in the summer sand and water facilities.
